Betterdays is a mum and baby unit which provides care and refuge for victims of domestic violence.
Betterdays was set up by Cynthia Monteverde for mums and children who are survivors of domestic violence. With 10 bedrooms, Betterdays offers support in re-housing, education and employment, as well as classes in coping with domestic violence, parenting skills, self-esteem and confidence-building.
When we met Cynthia for the first time we were just taken aback by her passion and enthusiasm for the project, we felt compelled to help in some small way. At the same time hearing first hand about the plight that women and children in our own city have to deal with was hard to digest.
Betterdays gives victims, both mothers and children, a “step up” into a career or higher education. Betterdays advises and guides the people it looks after rather than encouraging them to become reliant on its care.
Betterdays aims to get as many women off benefits as possible and to encourage independence. It says that gaining employment or education after they leave its care is a necessity.
Cynthia Monteverde, is the founder of Betterdays and believes the support that companies and individuals are showing, is vital for improving the livelihood of many sufferers across the city.
